If one is to write realism, you can't avoid violence. Esp violence against women and children. It's a scary world, filled with monsters.
Another question should be what's the goal for realism? Is it just a mirror? Or can it be used for something more?
Both female characters I write have sexual violence in their past, as does every female in my real life. I don't dwell on it, but if I did, I'd want to get it right. Looks like a good book suggestion. I was groomed by a male as a teenager, but it didn't come to violence. Have never written about that.

I think some write with a message. That’s fine. I just write with the subtext of: this is the world as my characters see it
